Occasions
There is a day a child remembers for years. The gift they receive that day is rarely part of that memory – yet it could be.
For First Holy Communion and Confirmation, the gift is usually a rosary, a cross or a prayer book. These are lovely gifts, and they have their place – but children rarely open them the next day.
GALAMBOM is different because you have to do something with it. You pull out the ribbon, and a thought from a Christian saint appears on it. The gingerbread gets eaten; the sentence stays.
Each box contains one of twenty-four different messages. The message on the ribbon is in English. If you order for the whole group, the children don't all pull out the same one – and they compare.
For larger quantities, by individual agreement, the name of the parish, the date or a sentence can go on the accompanying card.

Guide
Both sacraments are usually celebrated in spring, between April and June, on dates that vary from parish to parish. The gift-giving customs, however, are similar, and both come with the same challenge: the child is no longer little, but not yet an adult.
Between the ages of ten and fourteen, children can tell exactly when they are given something just because it is expected. What gets through is anything that doesn't feel like an obligatory object. GALAMBOM tends to work because it isn't solemn – a box of gingerbread with a sentence inside – and because the saint's message is something they will read of their own accord.
After First Holy Communion and Confirmation there is usually a family lunch. If you would like to give the guests something too, the ten-box package works out at €4.00 per box, and with twenty-four different messages to draw from, there will be something to talk about at the table, which on a day like this is no small thing.
The parish usually announces the date of the ceremony months in advance. Place your order two weeks before; if you would like custom text on the accompanying card – the child's name, the date – allow one more week.
Frequently asked questions
Something that is about the day, not the object. In the GALAMBOM box, alongside a handmade gingerbread, a satin ribbon lies hidden: pull it out, and a thought from a Christian saint appears on it. The child pulls it out themselves – and that is what becomes the memory.
Yes – and that is often what people ask for. From twenty boxes the price is €3.89 each, from fifty boxes €3.61 each. For larger quantities, by individual agreement, your own text goes on the accompanying card – the name of the parish, the date, a sentence.
With us, there is none: the same box, a different occasion. Each box contains one of twenty-four different messages, so the children don't all pull out the same one – and a few years later, at Confirmation, the ribbon is a surprise all over again.
