Christmas and Advent gifts

✦

Most Advent calendars are chocolate behind a piece of cardboard. We wanted something different: twenty-four pauses, not twenty-four bites.

Advent is the time when we have the least time to pause. Just when we need it most.

The Advent package holds twenty-four boxes. Each contains a handmade gingerbread – inspired by a monastery recipe, made with, among other things, white rye flour, local farmers' blossom honey and cane sugar – and a hidden satin ribbon which, when pulled out, reveals the words of a Christian saint.

One a day, from the first of December to Christmas Eve. Each gingerbread can be hung on the tree, so as the days go by, the tree slowly fills up. By Christmas, the calendar has become a decoration.

We created it for adults, but it works best shared with a child: they pull the ribbon, you read it aloud.

Guide

An Advent calendar for adults: what you need to know

✦

In 2026 the first Sunday of Advent falls on 29 November, but the calendar starts on the first of December. The two are not the same, and this is what tends to cause confusion when ordering.

When should you order?

If you would like it to be there by the first Sunday of Advent, place your order by mid-November. The gingerbread is made by hand and assembling the boxes takes time – once December comes, we can no longer work backwards.

Who is it for?

For anyone whose December is about more than a gift list. The chocolate calendar is for children; these twenty-four boxes were made for adults who welcome one minute a day when nothing else is happening.

How does it work?

  • 24 boxesEach with a handmade gingerbread
  • 24 messagesThe words of a Christian saint on each hidden ribbon
  • The ribbonPull it out and the message appears – this is the daily gesture
  • The gingerbreadIt can be hung on the tree, so by Christmas the calendar becomes a decoration

This last part is our favourite: on the first of December there is a box on the table, and on the twenty-fourth there is a tree that holds the whole month.

Can it be given as a gift?

Yes – in fact, that is how it is most often bought. If you mean it as a gift, it is worth ordering by the end of November so you have time to hand it over: the whole point of the calendar is that it is already in place on the first of December.

About the Advent calendar – where the custom comes from, and how to use it so that it really works – we have also written a separate piece in the SpicaJournal.

Frequently asked questions

What people usually ask

✦
What is in the Advent package?

Twenty-four boxes, each holding a handmade gingerbread and the words of a Christian saint on a hidden satin ribbon. One a day, from the first of December to Christmas Eve. The gingerbreads can also be hung on the tree, so the package doubles as an Advent decoration.

How much does it cost?

The Advent package costs €92.12, which works out at €3.84 per box – about 9 per cent less than the single-box price.

When will it arrive?

Shipping of the Advent package starts in November 2026, so that it reaches every customer by the first Sunday of Advent, 29 November. Single GALAMBOM boxes ship from early November.

How long does the gingerbread keep?

It keeps its quality for one year from production when stored in a cool, dry place. So it is perfectly fine for it to arrive weeks before Advent.

Which allergens does it contain?

The gingerbread contains gluten (rye), milk (butter) and egg. It is made under a HACCP system at the Milimári Sütiműhely bakery in Budakeszi, where nuts, milk and soy are also used, so traces of these cannot be ruled out.
